The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) is a US law regulating chemical substances that gives the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the authority to test chemicals for health and environmental risks and, if necessary, to ban or restrict them.
Section 6(h) is a specific part of this law that deals specifically with so-called ‘PBT chemicals’ — substances that are persistent (stable in the environment), bioaccumulative (build up in organisms) and toxic (poisonous or harmful).
This may mean that the manufacture, processing, distribution, use or disposal of these hazardous chemicals is wholly or partially prohibited or restricted. The aim is to significantly reduce the exposure of humans and the environment to these particularly problematic substances.
