We measure real operating conditions by installing monitoring equipment between the drive and power supply. The recorded data is analyzed using NORD-developed tools to identify inefficiencies and oversizing.

Based on this analysis, we provide clear recommendations for improvement and confirm the results through a follow-up measurement after implementation.

Measuring Performance Data

After installation of NORD ECO between the drive and the power supply, energy data is recorded in real time over a two-month period. This includes continuous load conditions, load peaks, and irregular operating states.

The extended measurement period increases data density, making it possible to identify patterns, anomalies, and overall system load behavior. The result is a load profile for the entire system.

NORD ECO uses an energy meter that records current and voltage. From this data, it calculates active and reactive power, representing actual energy consumption, as well as the power factor.

Data Evaluation

Once data collection is complete, all information is uploaded to NORD-developed analysis software and automatically evaluated. You receive the results in a PDF report outlining the key performance data. Support in interpreting the results is available, if needed.

Because of the volume of recorded data, the evaluation provides a highly accurate view of system performance and whether the installation meets application requirements. Oversizing is one of the most common opportunities for improving energy efficiency.

Measurable Performance

NORD ECO enables detailed measurement of energy consumption at the system or individual drive level for the first time. The analysis highlights anomalies and usage patterns that indicate potential energy and cost savings.

Accurate analysis

When evaluating and interpreting the collected data, values on consumption, utilisation and TCO are broken down. The key data obtained is used for comparison with other potential drive systems in order to make the best ecological and economical decision.

Exploiting potential

The use of suitable drive systems can reduce CO₂ emissions, lower energy consumption, and optimise costs for administration, maintenance and wear. Furthermore, variant reduction additionally offers the possibility to streamline production, logistics, storage and service processes.

Alternative Components

Since 1965, NORD has developed extensive experience in drive component design and manufacturing, supported by deep practical insight from real-world applications.

For example, a drive system with an average power consumption of 1.5hp (1.1 kW) and peak loads of 2.6hp (1.9 kW) driven by a 5.4hp (4 kW) motor operates at around 30 percent utilization, indicating potential for optimization.

Using a 3.0hp (2.2 kW) motor increases utilization to nearly 50 percent while still providing reserves for additional load requirements.

In large systems with many drives, such as intralogistics applications, NORD ECO can help improve individual drive system performance and reduce the number of different variants in use. This also lowers costs and simplifies maintenance and spare parts logistics.

Variant Reduction

As significant as the benefits of a NORD ECO measurement are for a single Drive system, they are multiplied when viewed across an entire plant. In large plants with numerous drives, such as in intralogistics, NORD ECO can lead to a significant reduction in the number of different Drive systems. Such a reduction in variants helps to minimise administrative costs across the entire plant and streamline production, logistics, warehousing and service processes. The highly efficient NORD motors, which deliver constant Torque across a wide Speed range, are particularly well-suited to reducing variants.

NORD DRIVESYSTEMS has so far compiled load profiles for drive systems in numerous measurements. We offer this service for systems containing both our own and third-party components. NORD ECO has already helped a large number of customers to improve the energy efficiency of their production and thereby also reduce their carbon footprint.
