Responsible Practices Throughout the Supply Chain

At NORD DRIVESYSTEMS, responsible business practices are an integral part of how we operate. We are committed to upholding human rights, protecting the environment, and complying with applicable laws and regulations throughout our supply chain.

Working closely with suppliers and partners, we promote transparency, manage risk, and help ensure compliance with relevant material and supply chain requirements.

NORD is committed to conducting business with integrity and accountability. Through established policies, employee training, and defined processes, we help ensure our standards are understood and followed throughout the organization.

As a globally active family business, we are aware of the influence and impact that our business activities have on society. Therefore, we are intensively engaged with the topic of CSR.

Material Compliance

Material compliance is a key part of our commitment to quality and responsible manufacturing. We monitor compliance with regulations including REACH, RoHS, conflict minerals requirements, and TSCA Section 6(h), while also tracking evolving regulatory developments such as PFAS.

Through defined processes, transparent data collection, and ongoing monitoring, we work to ensure compliance throughout the supply chain while supporting the responsible use of materials and resources.

The result is high-quality products that meet regulatory requirements while helping protect people and the environment.

The European REACH Regulation (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) (EC No. 1907/2006) establishes requirements for the safe use of chemical substances within the European Union. Its goal is to protect people and the environment while promoting transparency throughout the supply chain.

Implementation

NORD DRIVESYSTEMS maintains processes to support compliance with REACH requirements. Substances used in our products, as well as applicable candidate lists and restrictions, are regularly reviewed to help ensure all relevant documentation and reporting requirements are met.

Supply Chain Collaboration

NORD works closely with suppliers to support ongoing compliance with REACH requirements and promote transparency throughout the supply chain.

The RoHS Directive (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) is an EU regulation restricting the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment. Its aim is to protect people and the environment, as well as to improve the recycling and sustainable disposal of end-of-life equipment.

It is based on Directive 2011/65/EU, which regulates the use of certain substances. As a responsible company, we ensure that our products comply with the applicable RoHS requirements. Through careful material selection, audited supply chains and regular checks, we guarantee the highest quality and environmental standards.

NORD DRIVESYSTEMS is committed to maintaining a transparent and responsible supply chain. Our approach is guided by internationally recognized standards, including the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Due Diligence Guidance and programs established by the Responsible Minerals Initiative (RMI).

Supply Chain Transparency

To help identify and assess potential risks, we use established industry reporting tools, including the Conflict Minerals Reporting Template (CMRT) and Extended Minerals Reporting Template (EMRT). These standardized tools support the collection of information related to smelters, refiners, and mineral sourcing throughout the supply chain.

Supplier Engagement

We expect suppliers to maintain responsible sourcing practices, implement appropriate management systems, and provide relevant information regarding the origin of minerals used in their products.

Through supplier engagement, risk assessments, and recognized industry standards, we work to help ensure that minerals used in our products do not contribute to conflict financing or human rights violations.

The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) is a U.S. law that regulates chemical substances and gives the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) authority to evaluate potential health and environmental risks and, when necessary, restrict or prohibit certain chemicals.

TSCA Section 6(h)

Section 6(h) addresses specific persistent, bioaccumulative, and toxic (PBT) substances. These chemicals can remain in the environment for extended periods, accumulate in living organisms, and pose potential risks to human health and the environment.

TSCA Section 6(h) may restrict the manufacture, processing, distribution, use, or disposal of these substances in order to reduce environmental and human exposure.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large group of chemicals that have been widely used across industrial and consumer applications because of their unique performance characteristics.

Examples of PFAS include

  • Perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS)
  • Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA)

Regulatory Developments

In February 2023, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published a proposal to further regulate PFAS under the European REACH Regulation. The proposal is currently under evaluation, and future restrictions may affect the manufacture, use, and sale of certain PFAS substances within the European Union.

Our Approach to PFAS

NORD DRIVESYSTEMS actively monitors regulatory developments related to PFAS and works closely with industry organizations, including VDMA and ZVEI, to stay informed of evolving requirements.

Should new PFAS-related requirements be adopted under REACH or other applicable regulations, we will implement the necessary measures to support compliance.

Our goal is to meet all applicable regulatory requirements while supporting safe and sustainable solutions throughout our products and processes.
