Cranes are used for horizontal and vertical load movement, operating in at least two directions. Drive systems are typically electric, with gear units combined with
asynchronous motors
and
variable frequency drives
as the standard solution. In some regions, pole-changing asynchronous motors are still used.
Crane applications are found across a wide range of industries. Depending on the application, requirements for positioning, start-up behavior, smooth travel for crane and trolley movement, and braking performance continue to increase. This results in high demands on the drive systems used, based on applicable standards.
NORD has global experience with the most common standards, including FEM 1.001, FEM 9.511, DIN EN 13135, EN 15011, EN 13001-2, CMAA 70 and 74, ASME-B30 series, and IS 3177 and 4137.
